BEA was  established in  2018  and is an subsidiary company of SOG and its education and management company that overseas an extensive network of student BEA recruitment and support offices around the world, BEA provides education services to kindergarten schools, primary schools , high schools and colleges worldwide. We are an Education Investment and Development Company based in the UK. Our principal function is to work in collaboration with educational institutions to improve their commercial activity by streamlining their international recruitment processes, facilitating commercial projects and developing institution’s international brands.  We also provide investment for educational instiutions globally who are looking to enter into mutually beneficial joint venture agreements.

Background:

 

For many years UK boarding schools have recruited pupils from Mainland China and Hong Kong. The landscape is now changing. A large number of branded international schools currently operate in China and this number is growing very rapidly.

 

There is no standard approach for a UK Independent School’s involvement, but there are three general models:


Franchise: providing the name and some Intellectual Property. For example, Dulwich and Harrow

Hybrid: providing some operational responsibility. For example, Cranleigh

Owner: providing full responsibility and financial commitment. For example, Marlborough

 

We would look for the franchise model in almost all cases as this is the easiest to operate, so that the consultancy handle the pre-operations and opening of the school, handing to school management after the first month of operation.

 

There are, of course, a number of rewards available for UK schools when expanding overseas:

 

    Increased revenue to the domestic school

    Exposure to world markets leading to increased UK admissions

    Improved global profile

    Teacher and pupil exchange

    Cultural growth and cross culture learning

We are very keen to have a presence in the market

Conversely, we have NO interest in investing our own capital nor running day-to-day operations

Yet we have a long-considered and finely-honed understanding of where – within the above – we can add significant value and synergy.

Specifically, our approach – on which we have had discussions with several others – rests on three points/phases of value:

Consulting on strategy, positioning, setup and establishment from a delivery perspective (we would expect the owner/operator to be the expert in their local market dynamics)

A licence fee for use of the Westbourne name and ongoing counsel and guidance

Award of a UK-backed qualification

5.      We would be very interested – but only interested – in an arrangement that embodies all three aspects of the above.

 

Setup fees would be on the basis of expected time investment, invoiced quarterly in advance, with any variances charged monthly in arrears

The licence and support fee is where the real value is for both parties. To be negotiated of course, but it would be a modest percentage of gross revenue (as we would have no control nor visibility of costs), and would be well within the range of standard practice

                                                   ii.     Small enough to be ‘practically de minimus’ for the owner-operator, and to mitigate the risk/benefit of defection

 

Having a UK-backed qualification is both incredibly value-adding for the owner-operator and also gives us final sanction to mitigate defection risk. It doesn’t remove it of course, but in combination with a modest licence fee, does the best possible to ensure that incentives remain aligned for the long term.

A successful franchisee should be suited to the education industry , suited to the BEA network , and suited to the business format franchise system generally. Important questions to ask yourself include:  Are they suited to the industry physically and by experience, education, learning capacity, temperament and financial ability? What type of work is most appealing to them  for example, do they enjoy working with Students ? Are they  prepared to work hard and take financial risks? Consider talking to the Directors of BEA and getting input and insight ito your due diligence . How do they feel about the BEA brand and  the company's image and products and services?

 

NOTE :The right answers to these types of questions help determine their potential success as a franchisee. But no one can be 100 percent sure.  Reducing the risk is very critical to your success that’s  why we ask you to follow these steps above carefully .
